Train Link Plans Get MP’s Backing

Plans to reopen the train link from Pantyffynnon to Gwaun Cae-Gurwen have received the backing of the areas local MP. Adam Price said that the proposals to open the route for commercial and tourist opportunities would benefit the whole community. The Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP has written to Celtic Energy, who currently stand to be the sole users of the track. He also intends to contact Ieuan Wyn Jones, the Minister for transport at the Assembly, to see what can be done to help develop this project.

Adam Price MP said:

“This could potentially have a big impact on tourism in the county and will certainly help develop the transport links in the area. I have written to Celtic energy to find out what plans they have for the track and have contacted the Minister for transport to see what support the Assembly can offer.”

Simon Shepherd of the Amman Valley Railway said:

“The benefits to the Amman Valley through improved transport, tourism, and the resulting regeneration and creation of jobs is something we are waiting to deliver, and is something the Amman Valley deserves. Although Network Rail have agreed to our operations on the very end of the line from G-C-G to Abernant, we welcome Adams intervention, in the hope that it will springboard us to a position whereby we can link all of the communities of the valley with a cheap, economical, eco-friendly and achievable transport means. The list of added attractions and benefits is virtually endless!”
