Heating Oik Prices Leave Carmarthenshire in the Cold

Adam Price MP has called on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to scrap the 5% fuel duty on heating oil for pensioners.  The soaring price for heating oil has left many people struggling to make ends meet.  Plaid’s Carmarthen East MP said that whilst concessions have been made for gas and electricity customers those in rural areas that often have no option but to use heating oil are feeling the pinch.

Adam Price MP said:

“Many of my constituents that rely on heating oil for warmth are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with the escalating prices.  I have been contacted by numerous constituents that have seen their heating bills rocket over the past few months.”

Adam added:

“I have written to the chancellor to make him aware of the issue and to see what can be done to limit the impact on people in the Carmarthenshire area.  It is especially concerning here as in many cases there is no gas or electricity supply leaving heating oil the only alternative.  I have called for the 5% fuel duty to be scrapped and am awaiting the chancellors’ response.”
