60 unnecessary deaths a year in constituency

Local MP Adam Price has said he is shocked by statistics that show 60 people a year die needlessly as a result of being unable to keep warm in his constituency.  The Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP said the stat shows how important it is to tackle fuel poverty and will be backing the forthcoming fuel poverty bill in parliament.

Adam Price MP said:

“These are shocking statistics.  Over the course of 10 years we are talking about 600 people dying when there is no need.  That is a tragedy and something that can not, and should not, be accepted in this day and age.  I will be voting for the fuel poverty measure on march 20th and hope the necessary steps are taken to ensure this problem is eradicated.”

Adam added:

“I am deeply concerned by the figure.  That people in the county die simply because of the winter, something that could be avoided, is terrible.  Both Adam and I have been campaigning for lower heating costs, especially with heating oil and that is something the Government can secure to make a significant difference.”
