What else are they hiding?

Adam Price (Spokesperson (Communities and Local Government; Culture, Media and Sport; Defence; Transport); Carmarthen East & Dinefwr, Plaid Cymru)

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Government plans to publish its factual paper on the Barnett formula.

Liam Byrne (Minister of State, Cabinet Office; Birmingham, Hodge Hill, Labour)

holding answer 16 June 2009

No decision has yet been made regarding the publication date of the factual paper on the Barnett Formula

This report was first promised in January 2008 - andf the Prime Minister himself is on the record confirming this in March 2008.  We’ve now been waiting eighteen months, Calman has come and gone and no sign of it.  Can we at least have a redacted version?

They will say that the advent of the world recession has negated anything they agreed to or promised before, and that these matters are not important - it’s jobs and affordable housing and Britain’s economy and fighting recession - so their tunnel vision has shelved everything else. You cannot argue with these people.
They will only listen to themselves, behind closed doors.

Makes you wonder what they are trying to hide now.

On the subject of redactions, I had a quick look at your entry on the parliamentary expenses published yesterday. As I hoped, your claims looked entirely reasonable, but I was disappointed to see how much information had been redacted. For example, you bought a kettle at JDR Thomas in Newcastle Emlyn, but for some strange reason, JDR’s address and telephone number had been redacted. I’m sure John would be only to grateful for the publicity. Hardly a state secret, is it? Unnecessary redactions like that just fuel suspicions and help your adversaries.
