Outreach Programme Not Viable Solution
Adam Price MP has attacked the service being offered by the Royal Mail’s “outreach” programme. Under the plan seven post offices in the Carmarthen East and Dinefwr constituency have been earmarked for replacement by a mobile van outreach service. Adam has called these proposals unviable for the communities they are to serve.
Adam Price MP said:
“The mobile service will not offer the same support that a current post office system would. People in rural areas especially are going to struggle with a part time mobile service. Many of the post offices are run jointly with the village shop which will struggle to survive if the post office is replaced with an outreach facility.”
Adam added:
“Royal Mail has only guaranteed the outreach service for the first 12 months. We have no promises that after that period there will be a service at all for these communities. At a time when petrol prices are soaring it is hard to see how a mobile van service is going to be financially viable as a long term solution.”
