MP calls for moratorium on pipeline use following fears over safety
Plaid Cymru MP Adam Price has called for a moratorium on the use of the LNG Pipeline after a leading consultancy firm said the way the pipeline has been structured could pose a major safety risk. Mott MacDonald have published a report that suggests a failure to follow certain established construction procedures have made the pipeline liable to corrosion and have increased the risk of an explosion.
Adam Price MP said:
“Very serious safety concerns have been raised and it is essential that before the pipeline is used to transport gas, the people of Wales can be confident that it is safe. I would call on National Grid to undertake an independent assessment of the pipes safety before any use is made of the pipe.”
Adam Price added:
“Any use of the pipeline must be halted pending a UK Government investigation. Protesters against the pipeline have taken their concerns to the European Parliament where they will be joined by Jill Evans MEP who will accompany them to the petitions committee.”
