Miners Penalised for being Welsh
A decision to refuse compensation to Welsh Miners suffering from chronic bronchitis whilst Scottish workers receive a payout has been slammed by local MP Adam Price. Currently any Welsh Miner who worked in the industry previous to June 1954 is not eligible for compensation even though their colleagues in Scotland are benefiting. Adam, who is the son of a miner himself, has vowed to fight for Carmarthen residents who could lose out to be treated the same as their colleagues in Scotland.
Adam Price MP said:
“This is extremely unfair and could lead to a number of former miners from the Carmarthenshire area losing out.”
Adam added:
“There is no moral justification for a situation where miners who worked for the same employer should be discriminated against because they live on one side of the border. I will be raising this matter urgently in parliament to fight for a better deal for Carmarthenshire residents.”
