Adam calls for investment to tackle child poverty in county
A Carmarthenshire politician has called for urgent action after figures released by the Campaign to End Child poverty showed 45% of people in the Carmarthen East and Dinefwr constituency are living on or below the poverty line. Adam Price MP, who is supporting the ‘Keep the Promise’ campaign to tackle child poverty said the statistics where very worrying.
Adam Price MP said:
“These figures are certainly a big blow to the fight against child poverty. There is a moral obligation on the Westminster Government to come up with the necessary resources to reverse this damaging trend. It is clear from looking at this list that there are areas in the constituency that need investment.”
Adam added:
“It is especially frustrating that we are seeing evidence of a desperate need to find further resources to tackle child poverty. Whilst the Labour Government in Westminster have ruled out a windfall tax for energy companies making billions of pounds in profits people in our communities go without.”
